At the weekend, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott stormed into a BBC television studio to angrily denounce press reports implying he had favoured a property company run by Sir David [Garrard] and fellow Labour backer Andrew Rosenfeld.

It followed reports noting that his Office of the Deputy Prime Minister had decided in 2004 not to hold a public inquiry into an application by the men's company, Minerva, to build what would be the largest skyscraper in the City of London.

Further reports pointed to a decision by his office to back a ruling by Croydon Council not to grant permission to a shopping mall which would have provided competition to a rival development planned by Minerva.

  2. Oh dear, the level of belief we are all expected to believe in the denials of these political clowns is quite unbelievable these days!!!

(I should have been a top civil servant to come out with a statement like that, remember Sir Humphrey in "Yes Minister")
