Instant ASBO's

Blairy Poppins has new plans for her beloved ASBO's, she intends to give the police powers to impose them on the spot without recourse to the courts.

Nanny's scheme has been dubbed "instant ASBO's".

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this another example of Nanny's drip drip drip erosion of due process?

Maybe she has watched Judge Dread a few too many times?

I guarantee, much like all of Blairy's "ideas", this will come to now't.

  1. Ah, but Ken, you forgot one thing, why bother going through the nasty expensive courts, paying those overpaid self-righteous judges and all their legal support bods, overpaid expensive lawyers (such as Cherie!!), not to mention the office rents and the hundred and one other costs, when we, as a nation can simply do away with all of this, pay Prescott and the rest of the political scrougers more money (I saw MP's are wanting 20% pay rises), and levy simple and cheap to administer penalties 'on the spot'.

Blair & Falconer assume anyway taht we are all guilty criminals in this country (after all, our DNA details are being collected and filed, just in case) and we need ID cards to prove who we are, so why bother with the pretence any more of assuming "innocent until proved guilty".

Hell, the expense the country has saved justifies the 20% MP claim, end of story!!!

So much for the "ASBOs will only be used in special circumstances" statement when they were first introduced.

Playing your music too loud? ASBO
    Wear a hoodie? ASBO
Murder/rape someone? Get out on bail

    The mind boggles.

Hmmm... don't remember them announcing that ASBOs would override the bill of rights. Strange that they forgot to mention it.

I have full confidence in the Home Office, which has never been known to err. Therefore I welcome the instant ASBOs. In fact, everyone should be issued with one, preferably with their ID card, though of course we will all have to pay £617.35 for the privilege.

    I mean £705.77.

No, make that £893.11 ... or is it ...?

  5. Don't forget that Nanny also doesn't want our school children to drink wholesome full fat milk in case they become obese.

I think the record on the completion of Asbo is pretty low.

Yes, give everyone an ASBO and make them prove they don't need one. Guilty before innocent is the way to go. They can flipp off!

    in case they become obese

Obesity is a very good thing. First of all, in various benighted countries, many of whose citizens now dwell in these sceptr'd isles, it is a sign of wealth. Next it makes work in the textile industry (all those size 18 dresses). Next it predisposes to a long and highly satisfactory list of diseases, as: diabetes, cancer, stroke, heart failure, & the like. All of which should kill off the repulsive fat buggers before they draw too heavily on the pension pot. Me, I'd give 'em all 20 Mars bars every day on the NHS.

The strategy outlined by Patricia Hewitt in the previous post seems like a sound and sensible way to move forward and manage the planet by population control, a policy I wholeheartedly subscribe to. However the downside seems to be, to me as an octeagen something or other which somehow escapes my befuddled brain at the moment, that the fat people would be in a much better positnion to survive the bird flu pandemicmonium whihc might result in the balance of population shifting towards those who are fatties by preference and training after the BF holocaust.

To me the 'natural' BF holocaust is preferable the 'man made' fatness by eating the wrong things holocaust. Population culling will benefit from being presented as reasonable art of science.

Nurse, where are my bat droppings ....?
