  1. I had a reply to my rant to asda:

    Thank you for your message.

    Hello Mike,

    Thank you for contacting me.

We are aware of the story that has been placed on the internet and I can imagine how silly it seems.

When customers are purchasing any cutlery items including kitchen knives it currently flags up an age query alert on the checkout when the item is scanned to prompt all checkout colleagues to make sure the customer they are serving are over the legal limit for the item they are purchasing.

The reason why the age query alert flagged up when the cutlery was scanned, is due to age limit for purchasing knifes. All colleagues have to make sure knifes are not sold to anyone under the age of 16.

I can confirm we are not making any habit of asking for identification for teaspoons in any of our stores.

Thanks again for your email and please contact me again if I can help with anything else please let me know.

    Yours Sincerely

    Lucy Robinson

What the reply ACTUALLY means is:
'Oops! We've been caught out! We did not expect this to cause such adverse publicity, or to make us look total prats! We'd better bullshit, sorry, backtrack as fast as possible.
