Prats of The Week - Teignbridge District Council

Prats of The WeekMethinks it is time to award another of my prestigious and internationally renowned "Prats of The Week" Awards.

This week it goes to Teignbridge District Council.

For why?

It is proposing to scrap free car parking at its Newton Abbot headquarters.

For why?

They want to charge their staff who own cars made before January 2001, more than staff with newer cars.

For why?

Older cars are evil, because they pollute the atmosphere more.

How much will the charges be?

£1 a day for older cars, 50p a day for newer cars.

Ker farking ching!

Teignbridge District Council, well deserving "Prats of The Week".

  3. To make a mistake is only human.....To really cock it up, you need a council.

Of course, I suppose the lower paid people will be coming to work earlier, when the top paid staff arrive, the car park is already full....The lower paid are more likely to have older cars, the better paid, newer cars.....It seems to me to be a method for the top brass to keep their carpark "oik" free....No one (other then Ken and us) will question the policy as it is done under the new religion of climate change.

Many years ago someone calculated that it took more energy to make a car than it it would ever use in its lifetime.

SO it's more "eco friendly" to keep a car longer than to constantly replace it with a newer one. We are always being exhorted to recycle, rather than throw things away - how come this doesn't apply to cars?

  5. I am delighted that Teignbridge District Council has now realized that there is a difference between older and newer cars.

Newer cars are also significantly safer than older ones, especially in regards to braking.

So can we also assume that they will raise the speed limits on their roads, which were set back in the 1930’s to reflect that fact?

    No?.....I thought not.

  6. Hmm.

In a similar vein one might compare old and young councillors or, if you will pardon the oxymoron, 'council workers'.

Older people generally have adult and nominally self supporting children and have probably paid for their property or perhaps have a low rent with some sort of fixed increases as a maximum.

Therefore they require less income than yonger people who have children to bring up and mortgages (or whatever) to support.

They also likely have more time on theor hands and so could be expected to use public transport rather then personal cars - especially if they have a free bus pass.

Of course what it means is that someone with a new Ferrari (for the sake of argument)would pay less per day than someone with a well maintained 10 year old economical small diesel - or indeed anything. They really do live in a different world don't they?

This discimination could be extended to all employee posessions. One way or another.
Children ( wasteful etc) could really be taxed so barren employees would be chosen first.

The thing is, I bet the council workers will (in the end) meekly accept this nonsense.

Now, if instead of a parking charge, the council had called this what it really is - a pay cut, with the poorer, lower paid staff taking the largest pay cut, wouldn't there be national up-roar?

So how are these twats going to tell when the car was made? I have a pre-2001 personalised number plate on a post-2001 car. What's then bet that I would be charged? About 100% I'd guess. Twats...

I used to have an 18 year old 4litre Jag. I wonder if they would have to come up with a third price structure for me?
Its good to see that the council staff are becoming victims of their own council jobsworth nonsense though. No sympathy

The Council actually scrapped the two-tier charge before approving this. It's now 50p flat fee. News covered by www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk and BBC News website.
