Nanny Bans Humiliation

I see that Nanny is sticking her unwanted nose into sporting matters again.

This time the focus of her gimlet eye is Telford Junior Football League.

Nanny is worried that publication of the football results will embarrass the players.

Can you guess what she has done to stop the embarrassment?

Yes, that's right, Nanny now only records games in the Telford Junior League as either 1-0 wins or 1-1 draws.

Those in charge of the league claim that the new policy is in line with Football Association guidelines.

Oddly enough the FA says that this is bollocks, and that there is no such rule.

To add to the stupidity, the league will (next season) stop recording results for under-11 teams altogether.

Children need to learn about winning and losing from an early age. By engaging in this form of pc nonsense, the Junior League are in effect retarding the children from being able to learn to handle failure and the occasional snipe from rivals.

Is this denial of the right to learn from failure not in itself a form of child abuse?

  1. Silly Nanny; it is indeed a kind of child abuse.

I would have thought the big loss and the reporting of it would spur the kids on to do better next time.

Off topic but, last night on the state's broadcaster, Al Ja-Beeba, the South Today news programme showed a story from Brighton regarding "Scooter Proficiency" training for those kids at a junior school that wanted to scoot to school.
Each one of these kids, safe within a school playground with all security fences in place and gates locked, were given large Hi-Viz vests to wear which were several sizes too big for them and I noticed that the chief instructor was wearing one of the same Hi-Viz vests with a Boss-Viz (a different colour) over the top of the standard Hi-Viz vest.

I think they might have got the idea from seeing the results from the Italian Serie A, where it is the custom to get one goal and then defend like fuck.

Seriously, it takes just one complete idiot to think of initiatives like these; but many more people have to comply for these schemes to work.

Surely the football coaches, players, parents and supporters are not all so brainwashed that they will accept this shit. Because if collectively they all are, then fuck them all, they deserve everything they get and they do not deserve any sympathy.

They should stop whinging and get together to demand that the idea is dropped.

I've read about this kind of pc nonsense before. Indeed, I've read of a case where, if one side went ahead by more than 2 goals, the match was restarted with the score 0 - 0! Apart from the very valid comments you make, Ken, this crap will simply have the undesirable effect that most children playing under this dictat will see no point in exerting themselves, or attempting to play well, as their reward for doing so will be no different to that
'earned' by those who don't bother.

    Nothing new in this -
//There was no ‘One, two, three, and away,’ but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. However, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out ‘The race is over!’ and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking, ‘But who has won?’
This question the Dodo could not answer without a great deal of thought, and it sat for a long time with one finger pressed upon its forehead (the position in which you usually see Shakespeare, in the pictures of him), while the rest waited in silence. At last the Dodo said, ‘everybody has won, and all must have prizes.’//

No no no nooo! - the ultimate 'abuse' is the concept that one person might be 'better than' another at anything.

What we need is the system proposed in 1961 by Kurt Vonnegut Jr -

// ... all Americans are mandated equal. “They were not only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way." In America no one is more intelligent than anyone else, no one is better looking or more athletic than anyone else. In order to stop any sort of competition in society these measures are enforced by the United States Handicapper General. //

I, being a man, take offence with your use of the word bollocks in the derogatory sense.
I am fiercely proud of what I have dangling magnificently between my legs!

Nevertheless………whoever it was that came out with this crap should be told that if they have such little understanding of competitive sports, they should fuck off and make way for someone else to do the job.

David Moyes and Bill kenwright don't ever seem to be humiliated when Everton's results are announced - dire they might be but these two live in 'fairyland'
