Nanny Bans Help For Heroes

Oh dear, sometimes I do wonder about how easy it has been for Nanny to rob people of their commonsense; as this piece of Nanny nonsense emanating from Maldon Primary School demonstrates.

Charlie Tew, a 10 year old pupil of the school, recently bought a rubber "Help For Heroes" band from a military festival in Colchester in memory of murdered soldier Lee Rigby. Charlie then wore the band to school.

Can you guess what happened next children?

Yes, that's right, a teacher banned him from wearing it and put Charlie on report.

For why?

Well there appears to be some "confusion" as to the exact reason for the ban. Tracey Tew (Charlie's mum) told the Essex Chronicle that it was because the band may cause offence.

However, the school contends that the decision was made for health and safety reasons, with the headteacher reported as stating that jewellery risks "being caught".

Either way, the ban is absurd. If "caught", because the band is rubber and around his wrist there will not be any serious injury incurred other than, at worst, a slight bruise caused by the band pinging back or breaking against Charlie's wrist.

A spokesman for Maldon Primary School said:
The school policy states that the only jewellery to be worn are small silver studs and a wristwatch.

This is for the health and safety of children at the school.
Hang on a minute..."wristwatch"???...don't wristwatches run the risk of being "caught" as well?

This all sounds very odd to me.

  1. Ah good ol' 'Elf'n'Safety....The coverall excuse which means....Shut up and do as you're told....I have no sound argument so I'll use one of Nanny's coveralls.

I suspect the head teacher just wants to throw their weight around because they can. Too many people are all too prepared to get offended on behalf of other who, in all likelihood, aren't offended at all.....I am glad I am an old, thick skinned dinosaur because it must be awful to be so easily offended all the time over such minor things.

I don't ever remember hearing that primary school teachers are overburdened with intelligence or common sense. They don't live in the real world, do they?

    Me too, Tonk!

Although appalled by the attitude of the school, sadly I wasn't in the least bit surprised. Too many of our educational establishments are being ruined, er sorry, seem to be run by left vwingers, who appear to hate everything about this country, its history and its culture, and who use elf'n'safety to try and force their warped views upon those to whom they should be giving a proper education.

  4. I'll wager this has bugger all to do with Elf'n'Safety, and everything to do with not offending a certain religion..
